Sudan and Saudi Arabia discuss means to end crisis in Sudan

Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - Saudi crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and the Sudanese ruling Sovereign Council Chairman, General Abdul Fatah Al Burhan, Monday held a meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where they discussed the crisis in Sudan and efforts to achieve security and stability in the Sudan

Burhan arrived in Saudi Arabia earlier on Monday at the invitation of the Crown Prince conveyed by Saudi Foreign Minister Waleed al-Khuraiji.

Al-Khuraiji paid a short visit to Port Sudan, Saturday, where he called on Mr. Burhan.

The Sudanese leader tweeted on the X platform: "I was honoured today to visit the brotherly country, the land of goodness, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Thank you for the warm welcome. Thank you, my dear brother, son of the most generous people, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman.”

The Saudi Press Agency has meanwhile reported that HRH Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud,  met on Monday at his office in Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh with the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Republic of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the  two sides reviewed the latest developments in Sudan, their repercussions, and the efforts being made to achieve security and stability.
These talks are the first of their kind since the Saudi Crown Prince asked US President Donald Trump last month to personally intervene to end the war in Sudan.

Saudi Arabia is active within the Quartet mechanism, which also comprises Egypt, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, and aims to end the ongoing military conflict in Sudan.
However, the Sudanese government has repeatedly expressed its objection to the UAE's presence within the Quartet, stating that it would not cooperate with the UAE and will instead hold bilateral discussions with the other three countries to resolve the crisis.

On 12 September, the foreign ministers of the Quartet presented a roadmap for ending the war in Sudan. This roadmap included an initial three-month humanitarian truce, leading to a permanent ceasefire, followed by the launch of a comprehensive and transparent transitional process.
