Sudan and Egypt hold top level talks in Cairo
Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - The president of the Sudanese Sovereign Council and Commander in Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Gen Abdul Fatah El Al-Burhan, has made a surprise visit to Egypt, where he met with President Abdul Fatah el-Sisi of Egypt.
The Sudanese chair of the collective Presidency, had scheduled a visit to Cairo, Egypt, in about two weeks. However, earlier on Wednesday it was announced he was already on his way to Cairo, for a meeting with President el-Sisi.
The Presidency in a statement said the two officials held talks on issues of mutual interests, cooperation in the various domains besides the development of the situation in Sudan.
“The talks underlined the depth and strength of the relations between the two countries and the need to further boost and improve them and upgrade them in a way to serve the interests of the two people,’’ the statement by the Presidency in Port Sudan said.
Although there was no explanation as to what spurred that unscheduled visit, it could be seen from the formation of the delegation, which comprised of himself, the foreign minister and the head of the National Security, that it had to do with development of the region at large, following the Gaza peace deal.
The US administration, having pacified the most serious threat to peace in the Middle East and on its way to end the most tragic humanitarian crisis in Gaza, would turn to the top tragic man-made calamity, the war in the Sudan.
As US President Donald Trump, alongside the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, signed the Gaza Peace Plan for peace in the Middle East and Trump’s presidential advisor for Africa, Boulos, was able to secure a ceasefire in DR Congo, another challenge would be Sudan, where two years of war between the SAF and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has led to the death of thousands of people and created a huge humanitarian crisis.
