Sudan: Composition of Sudan's unity government faces challenges, ruling party says

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The composition of a new national accord government in Sudan, original scheduled for January, has been delayed due to difficulties in distributing the portfolios among the parties that took part in the national dialogue conference.

Presidential Assistant and Deputy Chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid was on Friday quoted by local newspapers as saying that the party had set limits for distribution of the executive offices to about 90 parties that participated in the national dialogue.

"The next government will be one of appeasements that necessitate concessions," said the NCP senior official.

Hamid said the Prime Minister's office, which the national dialogue conference decided should be created, "will necessarily be held by a member of the majority party", although no one had yet been named to occupy the new office.

Speaking about President Omar Bashir's health, Hamid said he was "exhausted" and underwent an exploratory check-up which showed that he was not suffering from difficulties in the heart or veins but the doctors advised him to take rest.

"He may travel abroad to undergo check-ups for further reassurance," he said, adding, "Nothing is serious."
