Stephanie Williams continues meeting with Libyan civilian, military officials

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has expressed the hope that the meeting on Saturday in Sirte between the Chief of Staff of the Libyan government of national unity, Gen. Mohamed Al-Haddad, and Gen. Abdelrazzak El-Nadhouri, Commander of the Army loyal to Marshal Khalifa Haftar, would be "the beginning of the process to unify the military institution in Libya".

Williams welcomed, in a tweet on her Twitter page, the meeting in Sirte, saying the meeting ushers in a series of meetings she is holding with civilian and military officials.

On Sunday, a day after her arrival in Libya, Williams held several meetings with, among others, the chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Libyan Prime Minister, Ramadhan Abou Jennah, the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Najla Mangoush, the President of the Libyan High Electoral Commission, Emad Sayyah, and the President of the Supreme Council of Magistracy, the magistrate Mohamed Al-Hafi.

Williams met on Tuesday in Tripoli with the Chief of Staff of the Libyan government of national unity, Gen. Mohamed Al-Haddad.

On Tuesday, she also met with the deputy chairman of the Presidential Council, Moussa Al-Kouni, who stressed in a tweet on his Twitter page the importance of holding the elections on the scheduled date, December 24.

"The people are waiting for this deadline, which is a historic necessity for Libya, which is eager to choose a single president capable of dialogue with the whole world," said Al-Kouni.

"This seems a difficult commitment but it is indispensable and this is what will make the difference," he added.
