Special Representative of UN Secretary-Gneral for children, armed conflict visits Mali

Bamako, Mali (PANA)   -  The special representative of the UN Secretary-General for children and armed conflicts, Virginia Gamba, will visit Mali from 9 - 13 July, an official statement said here Tuesday.

Mrs Gamba’s first mission in Mali "will mainly consist in evaluating the impact of conflicts on children, strengthening the commitment and plea for better children protection with all concerned parties and seizing the opportunities to strengthen the protection of boys and girls affected by armed conflicts,” said the same sources.

During her visit, Mrs Gamba will meet with several members of the Malian government, in addition to regional organizations, as well as UN partners and civil society organisations.

She will take part in the national launching of her new initiative entitled "Taking action to protect children affected by conflicts" and meet with children released by armed groups receiving integration services.

She will take the opportunity to carry out a mission in other Malian regions.
