South African President Ramaphosa holds talks with Canadian PM Mark Carney

Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney ahead of this weekend’s G7 Summit in the Candadian city of Kananaskis. President Ramaphosa and a South African delegation will attend the high-level talks.

The leaders discussed the alignment of G20 and G7 topics this year. South Africa holds the presidency of the G20 and will host the G20 Summit in November.

“We discussed the strengthening of our political and bilateral trade relations as well as areas of cooperation in energy transition and technological exchanges. We also agreed on the alignment of G20 and G7 topics this year. South Africa will join the G7 outreach session and continue discussions on further cooperation between the two groups that share overlapping membership and participation. South Africa will continue to work with Canada on the prevention and management of wildfires, which will enhance the existing cooperation in this regard,” Presidewnt Ramaphosa said.

He confirmed that he will meet with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of that meeting. He will also hold talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
