South Africa: Tickets for world's biggest tennis match sold out in minutes

Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) –  All 47,000 tickets for the world’s highest attendance tennis match in history to be played in South Africa were sold out in 10 minutes on Wednesday.

The much-anticipated Roger Federer versus Rafael Nadal “Match in Africa” will be played at the Cape Town Stadium on February 7, 2020 to help raise funds for educational programmes in Africa.

The legends are expected to head straight to South Africa from Melbourne in Australia following the 2020 Australian Open which ends on February 2.

Organisers have also confirmed there will be a warm-up celebrity doubles match pitting Federer and billionaire Bill Gates against Nadal and top South African comedian Trevor Noah.

The stadium hosted one of the 2010 FIFA World Cup semi-finals.

But thousands of tennis fans are irate because they were unable to purchase tickets which ranged from US$10 to US$160.

The CEO of the Roger Federer Foundation confirmed that the event is sold out.

“We are overwhelmed by the enthusiastic reaction on our ticket sales and we sincerely thank you for the overwhelming support. Also note that the event will be televised,” said Janine Handel.
