Some 1,148 Ebola patients treated in DR Congo since August 2018

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - Six Ebola patients, including five in Mabalako and one in Butembo, were discharged on Saturday from the Ebola treatment centre (ETC) in northeastern DR Congo, taking the total to 1,148 treated people since the outbreak of the epidemic on 1 August 2018.

This is according to the daily report of the national multisectoral committee of response to the Ebola virus sent to PANA on Sunday.

No confirmed case of Ebola was notified between 23 January and 25 January. There was also no any new deaths of confirmed cases on Saturday.

One case of death had been recorded among the confirmed cases on Friday in the Ebola treatment Centre of Mabalako and North-Kivu.

Since 1 August 2018, the total number of cases is 3,416, including 3,297 confirmed and 119 probable cases. Altogether, there were 2,240 deaths (2,121 deaths of confirmed cases and 119 deaths of probable cases). Presently, 585 suspected cases are being investigated.

According to the report, 7,611 people were vaccinated with the second Ad26.ZEBOV/MVA-BN-Filo (Johnson&Johnson) vaccines in the two health areas of Karisimbi in Goma.

DR Congo has already vaccinated 273,837 people with the rVSV-ZEBOV vaccines. Among the vaccinated people are health care providers, contacts and contacts of contacts of patients.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the number of travellers whose temperature have been taken at the health check points is 143,003,676.

To date, 109 entry and health check points have been established in the North-Kivu and Ituri provinces in order to protect the country’s big cities and avoid the spread of the epidemic to neighbouring countries.
