Somali health minister visits League of Arab States Hq

Cairo, Egypt (PANA) - The secretary-general of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Abou El-Gheit, on Monday received the Somali health and social prevention minister, Mrs Fowsiya Abiikar, with their discussions focusing on ways to strengthen Arab support for the Somali development plan, including health.

The spokesperson of the League, Mahmoud Affifi, said in a statement Mrs. Abiikar hailed efforts of the Arab League to support the health sector in Somalia citing ambulances, support for the education sector and assistance to pay the country's debts.

She also appealed for technical support for Somalia's health facilities.

The secretary-general of the Arab League affirmed the organisation's commitment to continue to support Somalia, in accordance with the needs expressed by the authorities.

In another development, the Somali health minister signed a cooperation protocol to support the Somali health system on Sunday with the Egyptian health and population minister, Hala Zaid.
