Somali President received in Tripoli by Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, Monday morning received in Tripoli the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, who is on an official visit to Libya as part of the promotion of cooperation and relations between the two countries.

An official reception ceremony was organized for the Somali president, according to a press release from the Press Office of the chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council. 

The national anthems of the State of Libya and the Republic of Somalia were played by the Libyan Lighthouse Orchestra.

The Somali president is accompanied on this official visit by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moalim Faqi Ahmed, Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, Home Affairs, and Federalism and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh.

Other members of the Somali delegation were  the Mayor of the Capital, Mogadishu, the Governor of Banadir Region, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, and the Director General of the Presidential Office, Abdulhakim Mohamed Yusuf, the same source added.

It should be noted that the Somali President arrived in Libya on Sunday evening, where he was received at Maitigua International Airport in the eastern suburbs of Tripoli by the interim Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, al-Taher al-Baour.

The visit is part of a drive to strengthen bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, according to a statement from the Libyan Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the acting Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, al-Taher al-Baour, discussed with his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Maalim Faqi, the prospects for cooperation between Libya and the Republic of Somalia and ways of strengthening bilateral relations to serve the common interests of the two countries.

During a working session at the ministry's headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, the two sides discussed developments on the Arab and African scene and exchanged views on the challenges facing the region.

The two ministers stressed the importance of stepping up coordination and consultation at regional and international forums.
