Slumber Tsogwane maintained as Botswana’s Vice President

Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) – Slumber Tsogwane has been maintained as the Vice President of Botswana after being endorsed into the position on Tuesday.

The Vice President has been in that position since being chosen by President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi on 1 April 2019.

The 57 elected members of parliament together with six special elected members were also sworn in.

The swearing-in of the newly elected Members of the 12th Parliament, which also saw the election of the Speaker, endorsement of the vice president and election of the deputy speaker, was held in Gaborone on Tuesday.

The six special elected members of parliament are Philda Kereng, Beauty Manake, Peggy Serame, Kefentse Mzwinila, Kgotla Autlwetse and Unity Dow.

In an effort to balance gender in the parliament, the special elected members of parliament are four women and two men.

The four women add to the three elected in the general election on 23 October 2019.  The parliament now has 56 men and seven women.
