Skhirat agreement remains framework for any political solution in Libya, says Libyan envoy in Morocco

Rabat, Marocco (PANA) - The Skhirat agreement remains the framework and basis for any political solution in Libya, Jumaa Al-Qamati, personal envoy of the head of the Libyan government of national accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, said on Wednesday in Rabat.

In a press statement following his talks with the Moroccan foreign affairs and international cooperation minister, Nasser Bourita, Jumaa stressed the need to end the cycle of violence and return to the peaceful way and the Skhirat agreement in order to end Libya's transitional phase and reach a permanent phase for establishing the foundations of a civil, constitutional and democratic State, based on a clear social contract, peaceful transfer of power, the use of ballot boxes and the rule of law and citizenship.

"The solution in Libya is political, consensual and peaceful and cannot be military," he said, calling on the international community and all peace-loving people around the world to respond positively to ending the cycle of violence targeting civilians and indiscriminate bombing.

Jumaa argued that Morocco, being a pivotal country in the Arab-Muslim world, and with its vast and profound international relations, we rely on it to play a positive role based on its constant concern for the unity of the Libyans and stability in Libya.

"This meeting is an opportunity to extend the greetings of Mr. Sarraj, head of the Libyan government of national accord, to King Mohammed VI, as well as to hail the role of the Moroccan sovereign, his foresight and his commitment to Libya's interests as a brother country in the Maghreb area", he added, welcoming the deep and secular historical, social and political relations uniting the two countries".

The Moroccan minister reiterated Morocco's appeal to all Libyan parties to go for Libya's supreme interest and to adhere seriously to the political process.

"Morocco is following with great concern the situation in Libya, particularly in the light of the military escalation at the entrance to the capital, Tripoli, and the consequences that may arise in terms of human tragedies and its impact on the stability of this Maghreb country," Bourita said.

The minister added that, for Morocco, "the military option can only further complicate the situation in Libya and affect the stability and security of citizens".

According to him, Morocco considers that the political process is the best solution to the Libyan crisis.

He insisted that dialogue remains the best way to deal with all issues between the various Libyan parties.

For him, "Libya's stability and the preservation of its territorial integrity and the security of its citizens have always been a priority for King Mohammed VI, and have motivated all the initiatives of the Kingdom aimed at bringing the points of view closer and to promote the signing of the Skhirat agreement, the only one that has achieved unanimity among all Libyans and is considered by the Security Council and the international community as a platform for a democratic and fluid transition in that Maghreb country".
