Senegalese president to take part in Russia-Africa summit

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - The Senegalese President, Macky Sall, will travel to Sochi, Russia, in the coming days to attend the first Russia-Africa summit to be held on October 24, according to an official statement transmitted Thursday to PANA.

The meeting, which will bring together the leaders of both sides, will be co-chaired by Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdelfattah al-Sisi, current President of the African Union (AU).

"The Russia-Africa summit is the first meeting at this level in the history of Russian-African relations. All the African heads of state and the leaders of the biggest organizations and associations in the region are invited," said the organizers of the meeting.

Participants will discuss a number of international issues with a view to agreeing on issues of major interest to Russia and African countries.

"During the summit, particular attention will be paid to the state and prospects of relations between Russia and African countries, to the development of exchanges in the political, economic, humanitarian, cultural and other fields with emphasis on search for solutions for an accelerated and coherent development of all Russian-African cooperation," added the organizers.

On the sidelines of the summit, a Russia-Africa "economic" forum will be held in Sochi on October 23 and 24, bringing together African heads of state and representatives of Russian, African and international businesses and public services, as well as organizations for cooperation of the African continent.

"The economic Forum will be a strategic step towards the establishment of favorable conditions for the development of economic and trade relations between the Russian Federation and the African countries. It will also promote various forms and directions of Russian-African cooperation," said the organizers.
