Senegalese President and predecessor call on Africans to cultivate peace

Dakar, Senegal (PANA)  -  Senegalese President Macky Sall and his predecessor, Abdoulaye Wade, on Saturday called on Africans to cultivate peace by promoting dialogue and the interests of the continent.

At a meeting held at the Palais de la République, they discussed, among other things, the sub-regional and African situation dominated by security issues, according to a joint statement issued here.

"Noting their perfect convergence of views on the issue (security), they undertake to join forces for the return of peace and the consolidation of stability. They urged all Senegalese and Africans to cultivate peace by focusing on dialogue and Africa's interest," the statement said.

Regarding the national situation, they gave "a broad overview of the political situation", referring to the electoral process and the status of the opposition leader.

"President Abdoulaye Wade has made recommendations to President Macky Sall to make every effort to control the management of oil, gas and other natural resources," the statement added.

Presidents Sall and Wade welcomed their meeting "full of brotherhood and serenity" and thanked Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacke, the general khalife of the Murids, one of the country's main Muslim brotherhoods, for having facilitated their meeting.

They had their first meeting in Dakar two weeks ago, when a large mosque was inaugurated in the presence of the religious leader who invited them to attend the ceremony.

President Sall came to power in March 2012 when he defeated incumbent President Abdoulaye Wade in the second round.
