Secretary general of former ruling party in Algeria arrested

Algiers, Algeria (PANA)   -   The investigating judge at Sidi M'hamed Court (Algiers) Friday ordered the arrest and detention of the secretary general of the National Liberation Front, Mohamed Djemai,  for "threat and destruction of official documents", PANA larnt from media sources here.

The accused, who appeared before the Public Prosecutor, was brought before the investigating judge on charges related to threats and insults, the sources said.

It is recalled that the National Liberation Front has led the country since its independence in 1962 until the last popular protests that forced President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to resign.

The Army Chief of Staff, Gaid Salah, recently asked the court to speed up the trial of all the persons allegedly implicated in corruption cases.

Several former ministers and senior officials, including President Bouteflika's younger brother, two former prime ministers and two former intelligence chiefs, have been detained, according to Said.
