Secretary-General of Organisation internationale de la Francophonie visits Mauritius

Port-Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - The Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), Mrs Louise Mushikiwabo, arrived in Mauritius Wednesday for a four-day visit.

A statement following a meeting with the Acting Mauritian President, Mr Cyril Eddy Boissézon, at the State House in Réduit, said that her visit is of major importance, as Mauritius shares a long existing relation with the OIF since its birth.

She believes Mauritius enjoys a good reputation in the Indian Ocean due to its continuous progress. “For her, the island is a gateway to the world.”

The OIF Secretary-General indicated that she discussed various topics with the Mauritian President, including global matters, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the food crisis, climate actions.

The environment said Mrs Mushikiwabo also discussed matters relating to the digital field as well as the promotion of the French language in Mauritius.

During this visit, the Secretary General of La Francophonie will conduct a field visit to the "Women's Economic Empowerment through New Banana Fiber Technologies" project.

Led by the “Entreprendre au Féminin Océan Indien (EFOI) Association”, the project is financed by the “La Francophonie avec Elles” Fund.

She will also meet the beneficiaries of the “Partaz kiltir moris” project, an initiative of the Diocesan Tourism Commission, whose aim is to promote fair and united tourism under the banner of Sustainable Tourism and Women's Economic Empowerment.
