SNJT condemns attacks against Tunisian journalists by Ennahdha members

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - The National trade union of Tunisian journalists (SNJT) Sunday denounced physical and verbal attacks against journalists by members of the ‘organizing committee’ for the Ennahdha Movement Saturday in Tunis, a statement issued here said.

SNJT said about a hundred journalists were attacked on Saturday by members of the organizing committee for the march organized by Ennahdha.

In addition, the trade-union said the journalists had been pushed and attacked verbally and physically, adding that many journalists were victims of sexual abuse and attacks.

While condemning these repeated attacks against journalists and prevented from exercising their duty, SNJT denounced the silence of the leaders of the party against these attacks.

"This silence expresses the tacit agreement of the leaders of the Movement Ennahdha with these attacks and an attempt to terrorize journalists in the exercise of their profession, to intervene in the job of journalists and to confiscate the press freedom," said the trade-union.

The trade-union called on the Movement Ennahdha to apologize to journalists, noting that judicial tools were available for victims to take the necessary legal actions against the perpetrators of these attacks.
