Rwandan media manager jailed one year for 'causing disturbance' at airport

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - The Managing Director of 'The Chronicles', an independent daily newspaper published in Kigali, Dr Christopher Kayumba, has been jailed for one year for causing disturbance at Kigali International Airport.

Prosecutors had sought a five-year jail sentence against the media manager.

Dr Kayumba was arrested in December 2019 for allegedly causing disturbances at Kigali International Airport, including uttering words that he would "shutdown the airport", the prosecution said.

This verdict comes after the management of 'The Chronicles' announced early this month that it would suspend operations until further notice.

'The Chronicles' had previously written critical articles about senior Government officials who were said to have been involved in controversial activities.
