Rwanda,Qatar agree to enhance military cooperation

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA)  -  Rwanda’s Minister of Defence Major- General Albert Murasira and a delegation of the Qatari armed forces led by Chief of Staff Lt Gen Ghanim bin Shaheen al-Ghanim Tuesday agreed to enhance military cooperation between their countries, an official source said here.

This followed the arrival here Monday of the Qatari military delegation on a two-day working visit to Rwanda.

A statement issued by Rwanda's ministry of defense said the visit of the Qatar delegation aimed at building on the existing good bilateral relations between Qatar and Rwanda.

It sad the visit also aimed at exploring and strengthening areas of mutual defense and military cooperation between the two defence forces.

The visiting guest also paid respect to the victims of genocide against Tutsis at the Kigali Genocide Memorial and toured the Campaign Against Genocide Museum, the statement added.

The visit comes after Qatar and Rwanda signed in November, last year, a visa exemption agreement to grant citizens of both countries visa-free entry.

In December, last year, Qatar Airways signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Rwanda to take a 60 percent stake in a new $1.3bn international airport in Bugesera, a district of around 40 Km from Kigali in south- eastern Rwanda.

Rwanda also signed a deal with Qatari-owned French football club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), to promote the visibility of Rwandan brands and tourism.
