Rwanda seeks support for Foreign minister Mushikiwabo in La Francophonie bid

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - Rwanda is seeking the support of other African countries to endorse the bid for its foreign minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, to head the world association of French-speaking nations, also known as Francophonie, an official source confirmed on Thursday in Kigali.

Since 2009, Ms. Mushikiwabo has been the East African country's top diplomat and the Rwandan government has been drumming up support for her to achieve her dream.

Ahead of 31st Ordinary Summit of the African Union (AU) policy organs to be held in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from 25 June to 2 July 2018, the Rwandan delegation is expected to mobilise other African nations to vote for her.

According to Rwandan officials, any help African nations will give Mushikiwabo in that bid would be appreciated.

It is expected that Mushikiwabo will be competing against the incumbent Secretary General of La Francophonie, Michaelle Jean of Canada, who has been occupying the position since 2014.
