Rwanda calls for the end of external interference as inter-Libyan dialogue opens in Brazzaville

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - Rwanda's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of East African Community Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, on Thursday called for the end of external interference in the Libyan conflict which is currently experiencing its most serious escalation.

The Rwandan top diplomat is representing President Paul Kagame as the outgoing African Union Chairman at the 8th Summit of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya which opened in Brazzaville, Congo, to make the voice of Africa heard and update the African Union (AU) roadmap for the Libyan crisis.

This important meeting which is held in the wake of the recent international conference in Berlin, Germany, on peace in Libya a few days before the 33rd Session of the conference of heads of state and government of the African Union in Addis Ababa is part of the actions carried out by Africa for the settlement of the Libyan conflict.

On the eve of peace talks in Berlin, Rwandan officials believe that foreign support of proxy groups in the conflict had created a "vicious cycle" of violence in Libya.

Libya’s conflict has increasingly become a proxy war between foreign powers, which have been backing various armed groups since the 2011 uprising against Muammar Gaddafi.

Egypt, along with the United Arab Emirates, is a supporter of Libyan eastern commander Khalifa Haftar, whose Libya National Army (LNA) has been trying to take Tripoli from forces allied with the internationally recognized government (GNA). Turkey and Qatar both back the GNA.
