RwandAir ranked third best Africa regional airline

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - Rwanda's national carrier, RwandAir, has been ranked third Best Regional Airline in Africa by British-based consultancy, SKYTRAX, which runs an airline and airport review and ranking site.

A statement obtained on Thursday by PANA in Kigali said Bangkok Airways was named the world's best airline while on the African continent Royal Air Maroc dominated the list followed by Air Namibia.

SKYTRAX is a global provider of research and consulting services with a focus on airline and airport services, which publishes an annual ranking of the world's airlines and airports and is recognised by industry players and travellers around the world.

The selection of SKYTRAX World's Top 10 Airlines is based on a poll of 24.45 million travellers from over 100 countries and regions.

The compilation of the list is based on a comprehensive airline passenger satisfaction survey which asks passengers to rate every aspect of an airline's products and services, in-flight entertainment and onboard food services as well as other facilities and services, the statement said.

Since June 2009, the Rwandan national carrier. which is 99% owned by the Rwandan Government, officially re-branded from Rwandair Express to RwandAir.

From Kigali as its hub, RwandAir currently flies to 26 destinations in West, East and Southern Africa, the Middle East, Mumbai (India) and Europe.

The airline which has 10 aircraft plans to increase its fleet to about 20 in the next two years.
