Royal Air Maroc delegation visits Tripoli's Maitigua airport in preparation for its new service

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - A delegation from the Moroccan airline, Royal Air Maroc, has visited Maitigua International Airport, in the eastern suburbs of Tripoli, to examine the procedures involved in the operational process, as a prelude to the possibility of providing service there.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Transport of the Government of National Unity stated that the Moroccan delegation's visit was aimed at ensuring that the safety and security measures in place at the airport complied with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization to determine the possibility of operating scheduled and direct flights between Libya and Morocco by Royal Air Maroc.

The Moroccan airline's delegation was received by the Managing Director of Maitigua Airport, the Head of the Airport Security Department at the Airport Authority's Standards Compliance Directorate, the directors of the offices and services concerned, and a number of officials from the airport's security authorities.

In 2014, most airlines stopped operating flights to Libya due to the deteriorating security situation following clashes between armed groups in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, during which the international airport was partially burnt down.

However, since the national unity government took office in March 2021, Libya has entered a phase of normalization that has seen the return of embassies and international diplomatic missions, as well as the resumption of certain air links with Tunisia, Egypt, Malta and Italy.
