Radio France Internationale deplores its suspension in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The France Media Monde group deplored the suspension of Radio France Internationale (RFI) programmes by the Burkinabe authorities on Friday, until further notice for shortcomings related to the treatment of information.

"RFI has been informed by means of a press release of the "immediate and until further notice" suspension of the broadcasting of its programmes in Burkina Faso," reads a statement from the French media.

RFI's management "deeply regrets this decision and protests against the totally unfounded accusations that call into question the professionalism of its stations," RFI added.

The radio station stressed that this decision was taken without prior notice and without implementing the procedures provided for in RFI's broadcasting agreement with Burkina Faso's Higher Council for Communication.

The France Médias Monde Group "will explore all avenues to restore RFI's broadcasting, and recalls its unwavering commitment to the freedom to inform and to the professional work of its journalists.

RFI is broadcast in Burkina Faso on FM (5 relays), shortwave, free-to-air on several satellites and via some 50 partner radio stations. It is followed each week by more than 40% of the population and more than 70% of opinion leaders," the statement said.
