Private Ethiopian airline undertakes first commercial to Somalia in 41 years

Mogadishu, Somalia (PANA) - A private Ethiopian airline, National Airways, on Saturday undertook the first commercial flight between Ethiopia and Somalia in 41 years, signalling the further warming of relations between the two neighbouring countries of the Horn of Africa.

The owner of the company, Abera Lemi, said in a ceremony in the Ethiopian capital that the event was "historic", according to the local media.

National Airways will fly four times a week between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, visited Mogadishu last June during which he met with the President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi "Farmajo" Mohamed.

The two heads of State agreed to the opening of a new page in relations between the two countries and the strengthening of cooperation in all areas.
