Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - DR Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi said here Monday that his election as vice-president of the African Union (AU) for 2020 and chairman for 2021 marked the return of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the African scene, a presidential press release copied to PANA said.

“My country has been for a long time missing on the international scene in general and the African scene particularly, this is a decisive return,” he said in an interview with the African TV channel, Africa 24.

This, the Congolese president said was a pride for him and his country.

Talking about the AU 2020 theme - Silencing guns - the DR Congolese president said this was a topical issue for Africa and his country while reminding that since his investiture, he had promised peace.

Concerning the African electoral agendas for 2021, the newly elected first AU vice-president thinks that Africa should be inspired by the Congolese experience of 2018.

On the African continental free-trade zone, President Tshisekedi thinks that DR Congo has a key role to play being at the crossroad of several regional organisations. With its huge potential, he said, DRC had to give and to receive.
