President Barrow, football fraternity mourn soccer legend, Biri Biri

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - President Adama Barrow has joined Gambia’s  football fraternity in mourning the late football legend, Alhaji Momodou Njie, widely known as Biri Biri, who died in Dakar, Senegal, on Sunday after a brief illness.

In a statement, made available to PANA here Monday, the Gambian leader said he learnt with deep sorrow the passing away of Biri Biri.

“On behalf of my government, the people of The Gambia and on my own behalf, I express my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, friends and the entire sporting fraternity.  I pray that Allah receives his gentle soul eternal in Jannahtul Firdau,” he said.

Gambia's Football Federation (GFF) President, Lamin Kaba Bajo, said “as we mourn and celebrate you, uncle, I would like to assure you that we will not relent in our efforts in ensuring that your legacy lives on as long as we are in this position.”

He added: “On behalf of the entire GFF and the football family of the country and beyond, I wish to convey our deepest condolences to your dear family, and we pray that the Almighty Allah grant you permanent abode in Janaatul Firdaus. Ameen.”
