Political dialogue resumes in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Burkina Faso's political actors resumed political dialogue on Monday after a three-month suspension when the opposition demanded the resignation of the defence and security ministers.

"We came to discuss in the best interest of the nation, and you will have the results by the end," said opposition leader Eddie Komboogo, president of the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP).

"After the suspension, the conditions we asked for have been respected, the ministers of defence and security will be here this morning to discuss security first, then we will come back to national reconciliation, before moving on to other issues," he added.

After the suspension of the dialogue, Burkinabe president Roch Marc Christian Kaboré dismissed on 30 June, the ministers of Defence, Chériff Sy, and Security, Ousséni Compaoré.

The Minister of Security was replaced by Maxime Koné, while the President of Faso himself assumed the functions of Minister of National Defence and Veterans.
