Partners on Somalia welcome Federal Government, Member States dialogue on electoral model

Mogadishu, Somalia (PANA) - International partners have welcomed the resumption of dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the five Federal Member States (FMS), commending President Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Farmaajo’ and the FMS Presidents for participating in these important meetings in Mogadishu.  

In a joint press statement, the partners have urged the Somali leaders to engage fully in serious dialogue aimed at reaching broad agreement on a credible and implementable electoral model. 

They expressed hope that other key Somali political stakeholders will also be consulted, as discussions advance, to expand support for an agreement and its implementation. 

“International partners appeal to Somalia’s leaders to be guided by the national interest and the democratic aspirations of the Somali people at this historic moment,” read the statement released on Monday.    

International partners in Somalia are the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, European Union, Finland, Germany, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Ireland, Italy, Japan, Norway, Qatar, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States of America, and the United Nations.
