Over 330,000 teachers report back to school ahead of phased re-opening

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - Kenya's Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Friday said that 337,432 tutors have reported back to schools ahead of reopening on 12 October. 

Grade IV, Class 8 and Form 4 students are expected to return in partial reopening of schools on Monday to prepare for national examinations.

Schools and other learning institutions were closed in March due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia gave the assurance of strict coronavirus containment measures.

The containment guidelines and protocols include mandatory use of face masks, monitoring of body temperature and observance of high levels of hygiene.

The Ministry of Education also announced that all schools that had been used as quarantine centres have been fumigated under the supervision of Ministry of Health officials in readiness for the reopening.

The Ministry of Education has already announced the dates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) as well as Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE).

KCPE exams will start on 22 March, 2021 and end on 24 March, 2021.

KCSE exams will start on 25 March, 2021 and end on 16 April, 2021.
