Orphans project launched in Bamako to sponsor 10,000 orphaned children

Bamako, Mali (PANA)   -   Mrs Kéïta Aminata Maïga, Malian First Lady, and president of AGIR, a non=governmental organization (NGO), Tuesday launched the "Orphans Project" here to sponsor 10,000 Malian orphans, official sources told PANA here.

The project is part of a tripartite partnership between the AGIR, the United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Authority and the Malian Ministry in charge of Solidarity, the sources told PANA.

The ceremony, held at the banquet hall of the Koulouba Palace, was attended by the Emirates delegation, members of the government, and other technical and financial partners from Mali.

The project, implemented since 2017, aims to sponsor 10,000 orphans aged 0 to 15 years who have lost their fathers or both parents.

According to the president of AGIR, as of Wednesday, out of 1000 registered orphans, 394 have already benefited from sponsorship, with each child having a bank account at the Banque Malienne de Solidarité.

In addition to sponsoring the 10,000 children, the "Orphans Project" focuses on other areas of development, particularly in the fields of health, education and training in rural areas.

The one village, one health centre, one school and one water point is meant to support vulnerable populations and fight against poverty.
