Opposition, gov’t mourns Gambians migrants drown off Mauritania

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - Gambia's Opposition United  Democratic Party (UDP) has joined the government to mourn more than 50 citizens who drowned off the coast of Mauritania this week.

“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the tragic boat accident off the coast of Mauritania that claimed the lives of many Gambians," President Adama Barrow said.

He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the departed souls to Rest In Peace, the statement from State House said on Friday. 

The UDP expressed deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families, loved ones and friends of the young people who died in the tragedy.

“UDP mourns the untimely deaths of these young lives with each and every family grievously affected, and indeed we mourn with all Gambians this devastating national tragedy and we urge all Gambians to remember our brothers, nephews and sons in their prayers," the party said in a statement.
