Nigeria's federal capital territory admin slams curfew on Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - The administration of Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has issued a new operational times for all parks and recreational centres in the capital city of Abuja, in view of the spate of attacks in the city and the entire northern Nigeria in recent times.

Under the schedule, announced in a statement Wednesday, owners of parks and gardens are to close at 6pm (local time) daily, while cinemas, disco/night clubs, drinking joints and other recreational centres are to close shops at 10pm.

“Operators of all the above mentioned centres, apart from complying with the directive, must put in place adequate security within their premises. The entrance and exit points into such premises must be properly manned,'' the statement said.
“These measures are necessitated by the need to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory, sequel to the prevailing security concerns,'' it added.

Residents said the new operational times would affect the usually-bubbly night live in the serene city.

Abuja has witnessed a number of bomb explosions in recent times, including the attack on the police headquarters.
