Nigeria's President slaps travel restrictions on Ministers, gov't officials

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) – Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday slapped travel restrictions on members of his Council of Ministers as part of the measures to bring down the cost of governance.

Minister of Information, Culture & Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, told journalists in Abuja that with the new directive, each Ministers can only travel out of the country eight times in a year.

President Buhari directed that no Minister should go on foreign trips more than twice in a quarter. 

In addition, no minister on a trip outside should go with more than four aides.

Mohammed also disclosed that government officials below the rank of Ministers are henceforth entitled to fewer aides.

Besides, travel allowance would no longer be calculated on an hourly basis.
