Nigeria: Anti-Malaria intervention inventors want their products available, affordable to ECOWAS citizens

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - Two inventors of anti-malarial interventions are exploring the idea of making their products available and affordable to ECOWAS citizens and by extension, to Africans in general.

They muted the idea when they paid a courtesy call on the ECOWAS Commission’s President, Mr. Marcel de Souza, on Wednesday.

The inventors are Dr. Achidi Valentin Agon, Managing Director and founder of API-Benin International SARL, an African Phytopharmaceutical Industry, and Dr. Eddy Agbo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fyodor Biotechnologies.

The inventions are the API-PALU, developed by Dr. Agon, and the Urine Malaria Test kit, developed by Dr. Agbo.

Te API-PALU is an organic malaria phytomedicine which treats different types of plasmodium (falciparum, vivax, ovale, malariae) and Prostati, a plant extract for the prevention and treatment of prostate.

And the Urine Malaria Test kit is regarded as the first non-blood malaria test kit.

Responding, Mr. de Souza commended the inventors for their innovations and expressed ECOWAS' commitment to citizens’ initiatives especially those that could impact lives beyond the region and provide an African solution to end the malaria scourge.

Mr. de Souza also urged the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) whose President, Mr. Bashir Mamman IFO, was in attendance during the meeting to consider financing the ventures in line with the quest to establish industries in Nigeria and Benin respectively.

The inventors are winners of the 1st and 2nd prizes at the Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) 2016 who also participated in the June 2017 Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government where their products were unveiled to the participants.
