Niger: Senior civilian and military officials trained on Governance and Security Sector Reform

Niamey, Niger (PANA) - Senior civromilian and military officials from Niger attended a two-day training seminar on Governance and Security Sector Reform (G-RSS) organized here at the initiative of the National Center for Strategic and Security Studies (CNESS), an official source said here Thursday.

The course was organized with financial support from the German Cooperation Agency with technical and pedagogical support from the Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF).

Officers from different corps of the defence and security services, representatives of state institutions, the media, and civil society actors attended the training sessions, focusing on several themes.

These ranged from, among others, the principles of democratic governance in the Security Sector Reform (SSR) process; the processes of developing security policies; the development of national security policies; the role of actors outside the defence and security forces in the overall SSR process; the role of governance and SSR in contexts of conflict or security crisis, as well as on gender issues in the modernization of the security sector.

The participants also had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in different aspects of governance and security sector reform.

General Bernard Belondrade and Ibrahim Massaoudou, two experts from the Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) served as moderators in the sessions.
