Morocco: UN Chief reassures Morocco about UN neutrality on Western Sahara issue

Rabat, Morocco (PANA) – Morocco on Thursday received "formal guarantees" from the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon that the world body would remain neutral and objective on the conflict between Morocco and Polisario, backed by Algeria, over Western Sahara.

A communiqué issued by the Moroccan royal staff Friday said that Ban informed King Mohamed VI, on telephone Thursday, that he had “taken into account, comments and observations made by Morocco in giving the guarantees, saying the UN officials in charge of conducting the UN mission on that conflict will remain transparent/

“On the basis of the clarifications expressed and the guarantees given, King Mohamed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to back and facilitate the job of the UN personal envoy in Sahara and to cooperate with the UN officials in that respect." says the communiqué.
