More than 9,000 people vaccinated against Ebola in North Kivu

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - Around 9,560 people were vaccinated against Ebola virus disease (EVD) in DR Congo, with the second vaccine called Ad26.ZEBOV / MVA-BN-Filo, from February 14 to April 10, 2020, in two areas in the Karisimbi health zone in Goma, North Kivu, the daily bulletin of the National Multi-sectoral Committee for the Response to Ebola Virus Disease reported on Wednesday.
 
The second vaccine which complements the first, the rVSV-ZEBOV, used since 8 August 2018 against the Ebola virus, was approved on 22 October 2019 by the Ethics Committee of the School of Public Health of the University of Kinshasa and on 23 October 2019 by the National Ethics Committee, said the bulletin of the National Multi-sectoral Committee.
 
Thanks to the first vaccine "rVSV-ZEBOV", the DR Congo has already vaccinated 301,828 people from 8 August 2018 to 13 April 2020.

 
Since the declaration of the Ebola epidemic on1 August 2018, the cumulative number of cases is 3,458, of which 3,313 were confirmed and 145 probable, with 2,277 deaths (2,132 deaths of confirmed cases and 145 deaths of probable cases, 1,169 recovered patients and 193 suspected cases under investigation.
 
The cumulative number of travellers checked at 109 health control points in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri amounted  to 169,733,500 until 4 April 2020.
