Meeting of academic committee of 5+5 Group Defence ministers on consultation and training

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan ministry of foreign affairs of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Wednesday took part in a meeting of the academic committee of the 5+5 Group via videoconferencing devoted to the consultation and promotion of cooperation in the domain of training.

The meeting, initiated by Malta which carries out the rotary presidency for this year for the “5+5 Defence” Initiative, brought together representatives of the academic committee of countries of the “5+5 Defence” Initiative.

Members of the initiative include Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, in addition to France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Portugal, Spain and Mauritania, who could not take part in the meeting, a statement issued by the Libyan ministry of Defence said.   

The delegation of the Libyan ministry of Defence of the Government of National Accord was represented by Colonel Ibrahim Al-Mabrouk Mohamed of the International cooperation office at the ministry and Colonel Fawzi Mohamed Al-Jamil of the School of Commandment and Army Staff at the presidency of the General army staff.

The meeting was held within the framework of consultations on the working mechanisms in the university domain at the regional level for countries of western Mediterranean, in a bid to strengthen their coordination and develop their joint cooperation, research and the training perspectives of programmes until 2024.

It aimed at improving the knowledge and sharing of experiences to strengthen the capacities and inter-cooperation of the armed forces of the 5+5 Defence countries, according to the same sources.

The Libyan ministry of Defence added that the activity was held under the supervision of the Libyan executive committee, which includes among its members Major-Colonel Abdessalam Mohammad Al-Dali, Major-Colonel Al-Mabrouk Omar Abou Hamida and Colonel Fouad Ahmad Hanich, and with the coordination and organisation of the unit of the “5+5 Defence” Initiative of the International cooperation office, among others.
