Mauritanian head of state meets president of Libya's High Council of State
Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - Mauritanian President Mohamed ould Cheikh El Ghazouani on Thursday received the President of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled Omar El Mechri, the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) has reported.
"The meeting with the Mauritanian head of state allowed us to present a clear vision of the Libyan issue and to discuss bilateral relations with the Mauritanian brothers and to explore ways and means to strengthen them," El Mechri said after the meeting.
"Our talks focused on the Libyan issue and the means of support for a peaceful solution. This implies an end to the armed confrontation, which would allow us to enter a phase of stability, the holding of a referendum for the adoption of a new constitution and the organisation of legislative elections," he added.
"We found a perfect identity of views on all subjects and a good knowledge of the Libyan crisis on the part of President Ghazouani, whom we had already met at a previous meeting of the International Contact Group on Libya, held in Brazzaville a few months ago," he said.
Mr. El Mechri also recalled the historical and cultural ties between Mauritania and Libya.
