Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - Mauritanian President Mohamed ould Cheikh El Ghazouani left Nouakchott early Sunday with a large delegation to Niamey, Niger, to attend an extraordinary G5 Sahel summit, PANA learnt from official sources.
This meeting comes a few days after the attack on the Inates garrison (a border town in Mali) which killed 71 Nigerien soldiers.
During this summit, heads of state of the G5 Sahel will work together to harmonize their position regarding the presence of the anti-terrorist force, known as 'Barkhane' in the region, with a view to a France/G5 Sahel meeting, initially scheduled for Pau in France on Monday, but postponed to early 2020 following the Inates attack.
The G5 Sahel members are Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Niger.
