Mauritanian Army arrests 7 suspected drug traffickers, seizes 700 kg of drugs

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - A Mauritanian army patrol has arrested a gang of seven suspected drug traffickers who were moving on the border with Mali, reports the Mauritanian Information Agency (AMI).

“After watching a group of traffickers moving along the border with the Republic of Mali, on April 10, the national army implemented a joint operation by ground and air forces, which led to the interception of traffickers, destruction of their vehicles, as well as seizure of equipment and a large quantity of drugs," AMI said.

It said in addition to the arrest of the seven traffickers, the army patrol also destroyed two Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles, confiscated one Toyota Land Cruiser, seized a weapon, 4 Kalashnikov magazines with ammunition, communication gadgets and 700 kilograms of drugs. A cargo of 1,800 kilograms of drugs was also burned with the cars carrying it.
