Mauritania: Media highlight formation of new government

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – Formation of the new government in the second term of President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz by Prime Minister Yahya Ould Hademine dominated the media that came out this week in Mauritania though the cabinet was announced several days ago.

In its editorial, the weekly magazine Biladi said "the new government is formed after two months of endless expectation".

However, for that newspaper, besides the timing and date chosen to make public the list of the governmental team, "the big surprise lies in the fact that the predicted chaos did not occur, the reshuffle only concerns eight portfolios".

In another editorial, Le Calame pointed out the inclusion of "seven women in the government" was a record but youths remained a glaring absence.

"They would perhaps console themselves by saying that the cabinet, which is almost the same as the previous one, was formed in emergency, and they would be represented the next time”.

RIMWEB recounted the first meeting between President Aziz and members of the new cabinet "cautioning them to avoid mismanagement and embezzlement of public funds”.
