Mauritania: 8 opposition parties call for urgent solution to populations’ problems

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA)  -  A coalition of eight Mauritanian opposition political parties Wednesday called for a quick solution to problems facing the people, an official source said here.

The group, in a statement issued here, reaffirmed its commitment to support the reforms of the government of Mohamed El Ghazouani, in office since 1 August, 2019, aiming at economic and social development, after a decade of mismanagement and pillaging of national resources.

Those problems focus on ‘the thirst that presently hits campaigns, villages and cities’, the fate of farmers who face serious difficulties in obtaining food for their livestock in sufficient quantities.

The opposition parties spoke about the series of exclusive nominations in the administration to the detriment of national cohesion as some of their grievances.

They also cited the shortage of essential drugs for chronic diseases and the need to break with a system of decades of mismanagement of the country.

The statement of the opposition parties also referred to the “coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) which unfortunately begins taking huge proportions, accentuating the problems of the country”.

Finally, it denounced “the maintaining of personalities, symbols of the mismanagement, in the administration” while reaffirming the support of the opposition for a parliamentary investigation into several dossiers pending for a decade of the regime of President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.
