Malian leader meets with Commander of Special Operations of US Africa Command

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The President of the Transition in Mali, Bah N'Daw, met on Tuesday in Bamako with General Dagvin R. M. Anderson, Commander of Special Operations at the United States Africa Command, on the security situation in the Sahel.

General Dagvin R. M. Anderson is in Mali to assess the security situation as the US helps countries of the Sahel in their fight against terrorism and violent extremism by providing intelligence, training and equipment.

Since 2012, Mali has been facing a security crisis accentuated by terrorist attacks that have spread to some of its neighbours, despite the presence of foreign forces, including the French Barkhane force and UN peacekeepers, MINUSMA.

"This visit is important to have a strategy that will be useful for Mali, the Sahel and the international community," said the U.S. ambassador to Mali, Dennis B. Hankins, after the visit.
