Malian journalist appointed UEMOA Commissioner

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The spin doctor (Public Relations expert) of the Malian President, Seydou Cissouma, has been appointed commissioner of the West-African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) for his country, official sources in Bamako revealed Thursday.

He replaces his compatriot, Soumaïla Cissé, who has been president of the UEMOA Commission since 2003.

A journalist by training, Mr. Cissouma is a graduate of the Dakar-based Centre of Studies in Information Sciences and Techniques (CESTI) in Senegal.

He was also an auditor, from 2010 to 2011, of the Dakar chapter of the Centre for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies (CEDS).

He had worked at the Senegalese national daily, for several years before returning home on being appointed by President Amadou Toumani Toure as spin doctor at the President’s Office.

A spin doctor is a public relations experts as well as political or corporate representatives whose job is to put a 'positive spin' on events or situations.
