Malian PM launches nationwide livestock vaccination campaign

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - Malian Prime, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga, on Saturday launched the 2018-2019 nationwide livestock vaccination campaign at Baguineda, about 40 km from Bamako,

The campaign aims at vaccinating 56.68 million animals against various diseases, including foot and mouth (FMD), bovine and Newcastle.

The Malian Prime minister renewed his government’s resolve to intensify efforts to improve working conditions in the rural areas as well as boost production of livestock.

The Minister of Livestock and Fishing, Mrs Kane Rokia Maguiraga, said that the objective of the vaccination campaign is to enhance health protection and disease control, adding that the 2017-2018 campaign, launched by President Ibrahim Boubacar Kéita in 2017, led to an increase in the rate of vaccination.

She said vaccination against bovine, increased to 80.4% in 2018 from 69.30% in 2017 and that the number of hotbeds has dropped from 9 to 4.
