Mali's transitional authorities expel journalist from Jeune Afrique

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The International Press Centre (Maison de la presse) of Mali Tuesday condemned the expulsion of Benjamin Roger, a journalist with the weekly "Jeune Afrique", saying that "freedom of expression and press freedom is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights".

The Press Centre invited the transitional authorities to remain cautious in taking decisions that could further tarnish Mali's image in a particularly delicate context.

he Centre, in a statement, called on journalists, especially foreign correspondents, to respect the laws and normal procedures in Mali.

Roger was arrested on Monday by the transitional authorities in Mali and then expelled for lack of accreditation, according to a source close to the case.
