Mali's military junta directs former ministers, MPs to surrender buttons, service vehicles

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - Mali's National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNSP) has directed former parliamentarians and ministers to return buttons and service vehicles to the National Directorate of State Property, no later than September 8, according to a press statement issued by the junta on national television on Sunday.

This measure is part of the overhaul of the state of Mali based on far-reaching reforms of the structures of the governance system, necessitating a reduction in the state's standard of living and strict control of public goods.

In its first statement on August 19, the day after the arrest of former president Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, the military junta, which has held power in Mali since October 18, promised to redress the country by fighting corruption.
