Mali reviews curfew hours

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNTM) Sunday reviewed the curfew hours it imposed on the country from 1:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. until further notice, a press release said here Sunday.

The military junta instituted the curfew on August 19 following the overthrow and arrest of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and his subsequent resignation.

The curfew was imposed by the new authorities to put an end to looting and ransacking throughout Bamako during demonstrations to celebrate the fall of President Keita.

The curfew, initially set from midnight to 5 a.m., has been suspended from Friday to Sunday throughout the country to allow Muslim faithful to celebrate the festival of Ashoura, the 10th day of the Muslim New Year.
